= Çayır M., KÜLTEPE’DE 1970 (Kt. v/k) KAZISINDA BULUNMUŞ ARŞİVDEN ÜÇ MEKTUP (Three Letters Found in 1970 Excavation Season (Kt. v/k) of
Kültepe), in: ArAn 15/1 47-48. [Abstract: During the Old Assyrian Trade Colonies Period Assyrian merchants
came to Anatolia to trade and established a large commercial organization
here. The oldest written sources about the economic developments of this
period are the Kültepe tablets. Among these documents, most of which are
found in the personal archives of Assyrian merchants, a large group consists
of business letters. Thanks to these, we obtain important information about the
commercial activities of the companies of the rich merchant families that have
representation in Anatolia and the family relations of the merchants.
The archive, which contains 205 cuneiform documents found during
the 1970 (Kt. v/k) excavations, belongs to one of the rich Assyrian merchants
Ennum-Aššur and his family. It is understood from the texts that the firm
belonging to this family operates in various cities in Anatolia. We learn that
Ennum-Aššur is mostly engaged in mine trade and shipping large quantities of
tin, copper and silver. In addition, it also trades items such as ax, hammer,
belt, shoes, brooms, rings and chains.
In our study, we will introduce three new letters from the Ennum-
Aššur archive, in which remarkable information about his family and
